Workshop in Aalborg (DK) during the Clima 2016 Congress
According to the “Training, Education and Dissemination” Plan, an international workshop was scheduled to be organized during the REHVA Clima 2016 Congress in Aalborg (Denmark).
From behalf of the Cheap-GSHPs project consortium, the organizers of the workshop were: Prof. Michele de Carli (UNIPD), Prof. Robert Gavriliuc (Romanian Geoexchange Society), Ing. Luc Pockele (RED SRL), Ing. Fabio Poletto (Galletti Belgium) and Dr.ing. David Bertermann (FAU Erlangen).
The program of the REHVA Clima 2016 Congress was provided in electronic format and presented on monitors in the building of the congress, so that a certain number of participants from different nations, among them China, USA, Italy, Switzerland and Romania, demonstrated their interest to participate at the workshop.
The presentations covered the following topics:
1. CHEAP GSHPs project: presentation and aim of the H2020 project (Luc Pockelé – RED, Italy)
2. Market of GSHP’s, costs and potentialities (Fabio Poletto – Galletti Group, Italy)
3. Technical aspects related to the ground and the drilling (David Bertermann – FAU Erlangen, Germany)
The presentations made during the workshop are available at the following link:

The presentations were followed by discussions, which were meant to clarify several aspects covered by the presentations, such as:
– The relation between the sizing of the heat pumps, their performances and the potential market;
– The adaptability of the drilling technologies to different ground types around Europe;
– The possibility to extend the newly developed drilling techniques and ground source heat exchangers to the so-called “energy piles”;
– The potential synergies with other similar projects or initiatives in the domain – one of the participants mentioned the “Green Heat Pump Project” (which was already known to the workshop organizers).
An interesting discussion was also conducted on the topic of the regulatory aspects of the GSHPs domain. Prof. Gavriliuc mentioned the creation of e new CEN/TC on geothermal boreholes and water wells, and the interest it has raised at the level of the European Geothermal Energy Council. Prof. Spittler mentioned the existence of CSA 448 – a recently developed joint standard on boreholes (elaborated by USA and Canada). Another participant at the workshop has also mentioned the existence of the IEA Annex 27, which has started in last September and which also deals with the regulation on boreholes.
The general atmosphere has demonstrated the satisfaction of the participants, who generally appreciated the information exchange facilitated by this workshop. At the end, the participants were distributed leaflets of the project and they were encouraged to visit the website and to keep the contact with the consortium members through the email address of the project.
From behalf of the Cheap-GSHPs project consortium, the organizers of the workshop were:
- Prof. Michele de Carli (UNIPD),
- Prof. Robert Gavriliuc (Romanian Geoexchange Society),
- Ing. Luc Pockelé (RED SRL),
- Ing. Fabio Poletto (Galletti Belgium),
- Dr.ing. David Bertermann (FAU Erlangen).
During the REHVA World Congress, the Cheap-GSHPs partners presented two talks regarding some of the WP1 outcomes, such a climate database and the definition of standardized energy profiles for heating and cooling of buildings.
